What a Mohalla Committee Actually Needs From a Digital System

Most mohalla and residential committees already communicate constantly, usually through one or more WhatsApp groups full of notices, complaints, and reminders. The problem is not too little communication, it is that a notice posted today is buried under fifty unrelated messages by tomorrow, and a new resident joining the group has no way to see what was decided or announced last month without scrolling back for an hour.

In practice, most committees end up using three things consistently: a simple resident list with contact details that does not depend on one person's phone contacts, a notice or announcement space that does not get buried the way a chat group does, and a basic record of any maintenance payments collected, since this is the single most common source of disputes and confusion in an informally run committee.

It is tempting to plan a full system with complaint ticketing, visitor logs, event booking, and detailed financial reporting from day one, but most volunteer-run committees do not have the time to maintain all of that consistently, and an overbuilt system that nobody updates quietly becomes as useless as no system at all. Starting with the resident list and notice board, and adding payment tracking only once that is being used consistently, tends to actually stick.

Residents are not going to abandon a WhatsApp group they already check daily, and a system that tries to replace it entirely usually gets ignored. The systems that actually work send notices through WhatsApp as before, but keep an organised, searchable record behind that, so nothing important depends only on being caught in the moment it was posted.
